Interview with Hanne Linnes

Hanne Linnes has spent decades refining her artistic voice, creating vibrant, layered acrylic paintings that invite viewers to look deeper. Based in Norway, she brings over 30 years of experience in art and design to her work, blending passion, intuition, and technical skills.
For Hanne, painting is more than a creative outlet—it is a meditative process, a space where colours and contrasts come to life. Her love for texture and depth allows each piece to reveal something new with every viewing. Inspired by nature, emotions, and the interplay of colour, she continually explores new techniques while staying true to her expressive, abstract style.
We spoke with Hanne about her artistic journey, the inspiration behind her work, and her favourite materials, including her go-to choice - System3 Acrylics.

What inspired you to pick up a brush/pencil and start painting/drawing?

Painting is my meditation—it is where I find peace, energy, and balance. When I step into my studio, time fades away, and I immerse myself in the process. The rhythm of brushstrokes, the layering of colours, and the play of light and shadow create a meditative state that allows me to express emotions freely.

When did your love of art start? Did you always want to be an artist?

I have always loved painting and drawing and attended art school when I was 20. After years in creative industries, I have taken my art to a new level, refining my skills and exploring new techniques. My journey continues as I push boundaries and express myself through ever-evolving artistic creations.

What would be your advice for new artists just starting up?

Don't focus too much on defining your own style—explore different directions and techniques. Experimentation leads to growth, and every brushstroke teaches you something new. Stay curious, embrace mistakes, and let your creativity flow freely. Art is a journey, not a destination.

What is the best tip you were told early in your career?

Follow your dream of painting without worrying about others' opinions.

Where do you get your inspiration from?

I draw inspiration from nature, the sky, and the sea. I often visit galleries and engage with other artists.

What is your favourite Daler-Rowney product and why?

System3 Acrylic Paint: Amazing pigment and intensity. Very nice and has good consistency.

What is a technique that you haven't tried yet that you would love to try & why?

More wet-on-wet and my technique combined with coloured pencils.
