Interview with Timmy Mallett | Daler-Rowney
Timmy Mallett is known for his work on television and his journeys on his bike around the UK. Timmy is also an artist and paints in oils, acrylics, and watercolours.
"My work is best described as a modern impressionist. Inspiration comes from the changing seasons, & from cycle touring where I carry my Daler-Rowney sketchbooks, watercolours and pads. I work up sketches and photos into finished pieces that I share on socials and across Mallett Fine Art. My studio is where I work on pieces in oils. You'd be disappointed if I didn't embrace colour... Landscapes may dominate my portfolio but people always fascinate me and I like the way populated landscapes bring an energy to a painting."

What inspired you to pick up a brush and start painting?
I've always painted after being encouraged from my dad.
What would be your advice for new artists just starting up?
Don't expect every piece to be a masterpiece. Practice, practice brings its rewards.
What is the best tip you were told early in your career?
Paint what you see not what you know.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Changing seasons and the play of light.
What is your favourite Daler-Rowney product and why?
I love the range of brushes. I seem to go through lots.
What's it like painting on location in winter? Do you have any advice for other artists?
