Daler-Rowney started off their residency programme in October 2023 with the UK oil painter Emily Gillbanks. The painter and researcher from East Anglia studied for her MA in Painting at the Royal College of Art. They were awarded The Fribourg Philanthropies Painting Prize and the László Medal for Excellence. 

Emily Gillbanks entered her artist residency with the challenge to create 3 artworks of employees in the Daler-Rowney Headquarters during her 14-day stay. She explored the creation of colours, and held an employee workshop on her approach to data-driven art.

The creative atmosphere helped me to gain confidence in directly approaching the subjects I wish to paint…I am sure this newfound confidence is going to continue to shape my art for years to come.
