'SLEEP! OVER'
BoldRacoon Sleepover x Daler-Rowney
Why buy a toy if you can create your own unique piece of art?
In the ever-evolving art world, why stick only to traditional surfaces when you can start a 3D toy? BoldRaccoon set out to explore this innovative approach by organising his first Custom Toy Show, 'SLEEP! OVER', inviting over 20 artists to participate.
Each artist was given a set of paints and a signature BoldRaccoon blank EEP! figure to transform as they wished. The result? A stunning array of custom toys, each as unique as the artist behind it. From a sleepy dragon to kawaii ice cream, every piece was hand-painted and sculpted by artists from around the globe, including the UK, Mexico, and the USA.
The show’s playful theme was inspired by the antics of sleepovers, where mischievous friends might doodle on each other’s faces. This concept translated into the artists' creative process, resulting in a variety of whimsical and imaginative designs on the EEP! blank toy.
The diverse lineup of artists included: Anna Spooks Horror, BREAKBONES, Carl Cashman, Cee Art Studio, Christina Queen of cats, Christopher Luke, Dead Original, Ejits, Ghost Fox Toys, Hairy Monster, Jaykishh, Jenny Cherry Art, Many faces of Laura Penn, Michael Morse, Mumbot, PJ Constable, Rach Make,s Reis O'Brien, RunDMB, Son of a Creature Man, Sqwishy Pig, UME TOYS, Zardapuya.
Each artist brought their unique style and vision, contributing to a vibrant and eclectic collection that was both a feast for the eyes and a testament to the limitless possibilities of toy customisation.
'SLEEP! OVER' was showcased at the annual ToyCon UK, held at the Novotel West Hotel in Hammersmith on 27-28th April 2024. The show attracted a wide audience, eager to witness the creativity and talent on display.
By starting with a toy instead of a classic surface, BoldRaccoon and the participating artists demonstrated that art knows no boundaries. The 'SLEEP! OVER' Custom Toy Show was not just an exhibition; it was a celebration of creativity, innovation, and the endless possibilities that come with thinking outside the box.
