Rodney Kingston
Rodney Kingston is a London-based oil painter specialising in portraits, landscapes and still life art. As much as possible he works from life and is inspired by every day subjects. He regularly attends life-drawing sessions to practise his observational skills, using oil paints for quick sketching including very short poses. He loves to paint people and is open to portrait commissions. His landscape work includes both urban and rural subjects including London scenes and closer to home, the River Thames at Staines. Still life work is important to his practice as it is an ideal way to work from life and control lighting conditions in a studio setting. The subjects for this work varies over time between traditional fruit compositions to studio equipment such as palette knives and paint tubes. Rodney runs short courses and workshops in oil painting and these knowledge sharing opportunities have become an important part of his career. He is inspired by the unique atmosphere created in a studio space when a group of people are fully engaged in their paintings and keen to soak up tips for improving. He finds it a pleasure to see the improvement in students work when they take on board the lessons being taught.
