RachMakes

Rach is a designer toy artist and crafter based in the Peak District, drawing inspiration from folklore, nature and a steady diet of fantasy media. She uses a variety of materials and techniques to create a cast of fantasy creatures that dwell in the forest of her imagination. The art she creates ranges from small resin figures, which are hand sculpted, moulded, cast in resin and then hand-painted, to art dolls, which are a much more elaborate process. She began her journey into the world of designer toys while studying at Wimbledon College of Art and exhibited at her first Designer Toy Convention (ToyconUK) in 2015 during her final year of university alongside her studies. Her practice as a designer toy artist continued alongside jobs in the prop-making industry in London where she utilized the skills she learned at university and in the props industry to refine her art practice and create the whimsical world of RachMakes. In 2020 RachMakes became a full-time venture, and her indie business selling her art has grown from there. She now sells her work online and at markets and conventions around the country. With the help of Daler Rowney, Rach has been able to bring her practice to workshops in which she invites participants to join her in painting their own versions of her whimsical figurines.
