If you Google Oil Pastel Society you will find lots of examples of oil pastel work on their website. It might provide you with some inspiration. I love oil pastels. Have you tried making some images with oil pastel - then complete cover your work with acrylic paint but quickly scrape it off again before the paint dries. The oil pastel shines through and you can achieve some interesting abstract effects.
