Claire Barrow is an artist and fashion designer, otherwise known as a fashion artist.
She trained in fashion at the University of Westminster and during her time there began to hand-paint leather jackets using Daler-Rowney's System 3 acrylic paints. Shortly afterwards, and before she had even graduated, pop sensation Rihanna commissioned Claire to make bespoke painted jackets for her Talk That Talk tour and album. An incredible capsule collection with high-end designer store Joseph followed, which saw Claire hand-painting leather biker jackets, bags and trousers to be sold in the exclusive boutiques.
It was with this cult following that Claire graduated from university and was talent-scouted in 2012 by prestigious non-profit designer support scheme Fashion East to show as part of its catwalk show on schedule at London Fashion Week. In Autumn 2013 Claire collaborated with luxury retailer Matchesfashion.com on a sell-out limited edition capsule range of leather bikers and bags adorned with her original illustrations.
Claire has developed a distinctive aesthetic, motivated by a DIY, hand-crafted spirit. She graduated onto the British Fashion Council and Topshop's acclaimed support scheme, NEWGEN, in 2014. Her ready-to-wear collections now encompass a full wardrobe of illustrated garments, showcasing Claire's world where fashion and artistic expression collides and challenges each other.
Leaders in the fields of fashion and art such as Nick Knight and SHOWstudio, the Tate Modern and i-D and Samsung have invited Claire to partner with them. Claire was included in the 2013 Evening Standard Power 1,000 List of London’s most influential people. The New York Times, Vogue, Dazed & Confused and Grazia have featured Claire’s work, to name a few.
