Do any Daler Rowney products contain animal ingredients or are they tested on animals?

None of our products are tested on animals. Some of our products do contain some animal products such as Bone Back, Ox Gall, and Egg that have traditional uses in art materials.

Animal Free Product Testing         

The following Daler-Rowney Ltd art materials do not contain animal products or by products:


All Artist Oil Colours with the exception of Ivory Black and Blue Black;


All Georgian Oil Colours with the exception of Ivory Black, Prussian Green and Coeruleum Hue;


All Cryla and Cryla Flow colours with the exception of Ivory Black;


All Designer’s Gouache with the exception of Neutral Grey 2, Paynes Grey, Lamp Black, Cool Grey 1,2, & 3 and Warm Grey 1,2, &3.


All System 3 colours with the exception of Raw Sienna.


Pearlescent Liquid Acrylic Inks                        All colours

F.W. Artist Inks                                                    All colours

Rowney Block Printing Colours                        All colours

(Water Based and Oil Based)

Dalon and Cryla,  brushes and series 260, 270 &280.


All painting surfaces and equipment with the exception of Saunders Waterford paper (gelatine sized), canvas panels (backing glue is an animal derivative) and rabbit skin size.


This list may change due to changes in the composition of the colours. The pigment used in colour ranges that is animal derived is Bone Black (Colour Index number Pigment Black 9 77267). This is listed on most labels or in product information. I f in doubt please contact the Technical Department at Daler Rowney Limited.
