Basic colors

Hi,
Which are the three basic colors of color theory in Georgian range? My guess is Crimson Alizarin, Cadmium Yellow and French Ultramarine. Am I right?
And what is the difference of "deep" versions, besides the hue?
Thank you.

RE: Basic colors

Hi,

The three basic colours that could be used as primaries for our Georgian Oil range are the following:

620 Cadmium Yellow (Hue)
409 Permanent Magenta
142 Phthalo Blue

This three colours are single pigment colours, transparent and excellent for mixing to get good and clean green, orange and violet colours.

"Deep" colours are darker versions or tints of other colours of the same kind of shade.
For instance, Cadmium Yellow Deep (Hue) is a darker shade of Cadmium Yellow (Hue).

"Hue" is a word that we use to describe a colour that is made with synthetic pigments to copy a natural colour.
For example, as it is now forbidden to use cadmium to make colours, we create a copy of Cadmium Yellow colour with synthetic pigments that are not harmful and we call it Cadmium Yellow (Hue).

Thank you for your question,

Please let us know if you have any other request,

Kind regards,
Daler-Rowney

RE: Basic colors

Thank you for the answer. I'm taking Learn and Master Painting Course with Gayle Levee from DVD. She says don't buy paints with "Hue" notation, but your explanation makes sense because of the toxicity.
However, there are still paints in the market which still use Cadmium pigments (including Daler-Rowney artist series). This is a bit confusing isn't it?

Re: I'm also having trouble & Georgian Oil classic set

Hi both,

We are sorry that you had problems with the lids of Georgian tubes. As we told you just below in the conversation, we are aware of this problem and have fixed it. Some bad caps are still in circulation but the new tubes don't have any problems. For all the tubes with broken lids, you just need to send us an email : webmaster@daler-rowney.com explaining that you have broken lids and you would like replacement caps.

Please also provide your full postal address and the number of caps you need.

Kind regards,
Daler-Rowney

I am also having trouble

I am also having trouble with the caps. Just had to dispose of broken caps and duct tape four tubes of paint. Also, as you would imagine, had to clean up the mess it made on other tubes. Love the Georgian colors. First heard of you in a book I read (I'm a book nerd) when the main character used Georgian Scarlett Lake. Couldn't rest until I had found it. Notice that Jim had the same problem. My tubes are the 75 ml size. Have about eight tubes with those hat caps so could use a few extra in case the others break, too. Thank you. Eleanor

georgian oils- classic set

I recently purchased a classic set of Georgian Oils for a class that I teach and 4 of the tops of the tubes have separated from the tube cap so that they cannot be adequately closed and I feel they are going to dry out before they can be used. I feel the plastic that was used for the caps is inferior. I have been using Georgian oil paints for monotypes for many years in my classes at St. John's University and the Art League of Long Island, and they have always given my students a beautiful print. I would appreciate a replacement set for my trouble.

Sincerely,
Stephanie Jacobson

RE: Georgian Oil Paints

Hi Jim,

I'm very sorry to hear that you've had problems with broken caps. A couple of years back we had one bad batch of caps which were not discovered until further down the line when all of them had already gone in to distribution all around the world. And due to the slow turnaround of some colours, there are still some tubes with bad caps in circulation. Then issue has long since been rectified, however, we are very happy to send you a batch of new caps for you to replace with the old ones on your tubes.

Please send an e-mail to reception@daler-rowney.com explaining that your caps have broken. Please also provide your full postal address and the number of caps you need.

Kind regards,
Daler-Rowney

Georgian Oil Paints

Several times in the past few months, the caps on your paints have fractured and in one case separated into two pieces. In all cases, the tubes of paint were hardly used. How can I obtain replacement caps for the 75 ml size. I need 3 and a few spare for the future.
I like the paint very much.
Thanks,
Jim

Hi Roy, I have forwarded

Hi Roy,

I have forwarded your comment to one of my US colleagues who should get back to you shortly with regards to your enquiry.

Oils

Hello. I am a professor of art at Louisiana State University - Alexandria. I have used your willow charcoal for my personal and drawing classes. I like this product very much and it is now available at our local Wal.Mart Store. I am interested in your oils, particularly Georgian. I have used Windsor Newton and am wondering how Georgian compares? Do you ever send samples to artists/professors? Do you have any catalogues of products other than online and price list. I am unable to locate retailers in this area (the locator for "Alexandria" refers to Alexandria, Virginia.) Thank you for any information you can provide.
Best regards and Merry Christmas.
Prof. Roy de Ville, AAM, ICOM
