Chris Chapman

Born in Ashton under Lyne in 1966, Chris was introduced to the art world by his father, a keen art collector, who introduced him to the works of  L.S. Lowry, Trevor Grimshaw, and David Vaughan. He began exhibiting his own work in the early 80's whilst still at school, before beginning a career in the leisure industry.

In 1998, Chris met and became great friends with the artist John Thompson, visiting his studio on a weekly basis. John acted as mentor and teacher to Chris, allowing him full use of his studio to paint freely. A keen collector of art himself, Chris has met and discussed art with many of the artists in his collection.

2014 - Accepted for six Month residency and Studio space In Catstlefield Gallery New Art Space - Federation House - Supported by NOMA.

New Art Spaces is CG's 'pop-up' project spaces initiative offering opportunities for artists, artist groups and artist development agencies. Federation House has been made possible through the generous support of NOMA.

Castlefield Gallery's vision is for the North West to be a place where artists can live and produce work while presenting their work in national and international contexts. Its mission is to nurture talent, explore cultural trends and deepen our audience's relationship to contemporary art.

My Aim is to become a full time artist.  I work solely in Daler-Rowney's System 3 acrylic on canvas and Board.
