Michele Carrozo

I painted my first watercolour-pale purple daisies gathered in a translucent glass-when I was eight years old. From that day to this, the colour purple has been central to the majority of my paintings. Something about the energy of crimson red combined with the coldness of cerulean blue or the depth of ultramarine blue magnetizes me. Colour like this—vibrant, saturated, mysterious---has a tendency to just take over once the skeleton of the painting has taken shape in the drawing. At this stage, colour absorbs all of my attention at the easel.

My academic studies took me to the Roslyn School of Painting, NY, a scholarship at the Arts Student’s League, NY from the Pastel Society of America, NY, and a BA in Fine Arts. During the late nineties I worked as Daler-Rowney’s East Coast demonstrator. My work has been exhibited in Lisbon, Portugal and recently maintained my studio on Cape Cod, Ma. I will be returning to my home in Portugal, to continue painting and teaching, and for the first time will offer an intensive one week course at my atelier-flat in Portugal in 2015.
