Michael Schaffer

Hello. I’m Michael Schaffer.

I began creting art in the mid 1980's.  I studied for two years with the primary assistant to Richard Diebenkorn when I attended U.C.L.A Extension from 1986 through to 1987. I've worked in primarily acrylic paints and inks over the past 30 years.  I've had shows at galleries in New York City, Los Angeles and Sacramento.  I live in Sacramento with m y wife Renee.

In 2009, I developed “The New Action Art,” an incredibly fun style of abstract painting. The mediums used are Daler-Rowney acrylic inks, acrylic paint, rubbing alcohol, and water mist. I found that Daler-Rowney acrylic ink flows more beautifully than any other acrylic ink I’ve tried.

The color possibilities to enhance your composition are endless! I have created art in two primary categories: Figurative Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism.

The binding factor of the two styles are the use of bold color and thought provoking content; whether the image is strictly abstract or has some “real world” references.
