Keith Sluder

"The secret techniques that I have developed over the years are rare combinations and ratios of different water-based media layered upon each other.  If I had to pick an overall favorite, it would be the premium quality of Daler-Rowney  Artist Watercolor.  I love the consistency of this paint and how beautifully it becomes one with paper or board surfaces. The watercolor presents a dazzling focal point and with its partner and vehicle, the water, it can then softly fade itself into the white of the surface. Cobalt Green and Cobalt Turquoise are breathtaking when mixed with Ultramarine Violet for reflections in water and for soft backgrounds.  My favorite all-around paper is The Langton Prestige 140 lb Rough Grain Torchon.  For more detailed work, I like the Extra Smooth (Hot Pressed) Grain Satine".

Keith Sluder is a Master Watercolorist, Cover Artist, Degreed Designer, Workshop Instructor, Muralist, Consultant, and former Gallery owner.  He has been painting and drawing pictures & cartoons for as long as he can remember.  He estimates that he’s created more than 2,000 paintings and 3,000 sketches.

Keith’s early professional career began not in the creative fields of rendering portraits and landscapes, but in the technical aspects of drawing. He graduated from ITT Technical Institute with a degree in Drafting & Design and honed his skills on the drafting tables for architectural companies and the aerospace industry.  Soon enough, Sluder, who was born on a small rural farm in Asheville, N.C., began to branch out to more artistic endeavors. His childhood influenced his appreciation for the tranquility and beauty of nature; inspiring his realistic style. He describes that style as MAGIC REALISM; consisting of super realism mixed with a splash of looseness or fantasy.  To view Keith's artwork is to open a window into another dimension that has no borders; where time stands still and the magic is very real.

Keith paints 12 subject matters:  Dynamic Landscapes, Art Nouveau, Americana, Portraits, Native American, Architectural, Enchanted Visions, Seascapes & Lighthouses, Wildlife, Still Life, Whimsical, and Fantasy Designs. He is one of the most versatile artists in the country today; considered an expert in water-based media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein, matte acrylic, inks, egg tempera), oils, pastels, and graphite pencil. He has amassed 1,500 collectors spanning from Hollywood to Florida as well as Japan and China. He’s done commissions for Ernest Borgnine, The Dinah Shore Tennis Classic, William Holden, William Fawcett, William Shatner, Peter Breck, a former US Ambassador to China, and many Fortune 500 Corporations. His art has helped raise money for fundraisers through the National Football League, the Ronald McDonald House, and the American Cancer Society.

Keith has owned two galleries and was part owner in a third, all in Southern California.  He has been promoted by many galleries and art dealers across the nation. He is a juried member of the Watercolor Society of Oregon and the Arizona Watercolor Association. Keith teaches workshops in 4 states (OR, WA, CA, AZ).  On his website are 120+ testimonials from his satisfied students.  Keith will be expanding his teaching to include Plein Air workshops to paint the Spirit of Oregon and beyond.
