Julia Tanner

I have drawn and painted since childhood and studied art at school. On leaving school I worked in a Bank (a proper job!) but continued to paint as a hobby, attending the workshops and courses which were of benefit to me. Upon the death of my parents several years ago I found painting to be the most amazing way of coping and gradually it took over my life.

I attended adult education classes for 3 years gaining NCFE level 3 and started to exhibit my work at local art shows. Amazingly people started to buy my paintings and I now exhibit in The Marylebone Gallery in London and at Picturesque in Billericay. I am also a member of the Guild of Essex Craftsmen and a Professional Associate of The SAA. I also teach beginners workshops in both watercolour and acrylic, and demonstrate, whilst continuing to exhibit and sell.
I gave up my part time job last year to focus entirely on my art and I feel that my work improved spectacularly from that point. My aim is to be famous! It's taken me a long time to realise and a lot of confidence but I finally know that my work is good, - I do pinch myself from time to time that I have been fortunate enough to do what I love, I think art is a way of life rather than a job!
