Jill Winch

Jill has always had a passion for drawing and her artistic career began when she trained and worked as a graphic designer.
Jill later became enthralled with Botanical Art and after taking a course at a local college went on to train at the Chelsea Physic Garden where she received her Diploma in Botanical Illustration.
“Botanical painting changed my life, once discovered I knew it was something I had always wanted to do".

In order to pass on her tremendous enthusiasm for the subject Jill then gained a teaching qualification and now teaches at various locations in the UK, leads courses in Ireland and runs Art Holidays from a beautiful wine and olive oil estate in Tuscany.
Jill is passionate about the use of colour, she uses several layers of different washes to achieve the depth of colour she sees in her studies of plants and vegetables yet retaining the delicacy only watercolours can bring.

Jill is now a member of the Society of Botanical Artists and this year has been given the Daler-Rowney Choice Award for her painting of Medinilla magnifica. She was thrilled to be presented with a beautiful box of watercolours, by Elizabeth Banks – President of the Royal Horticultural Society on 19 April 2012, at the Society’s Annual Exhibition.

Jill’s original paintings can be seen at The Norton Way Gallery in Letchworth.

She is currently working on a series of paintings for the RHS show in 2013 and is looking forward to using the Daler-Rowney watercolours and brushes that she won this year.

As well as painting in watercolour Jill also uses pencils and coloured pencils to produce botanical work and life drawings, some of which can be seen on her website www.jillwinch.com
