New to using canvas. What are the little extra bits of wood for?

I've just bought a small Daler Rowley canvas, and it's come with a small packet with 8 bits of wood. I'm sure you all know what I mean... what do I do with them?

Little bits of wood

The corner of canvases are not fixed, the little bits of wood are used to spread the stretcher bars apart and tighten a loose canvas. They are generally a friction fit but a small drop of wood glue can be used to hold them in place, but not enough that they can be knock loose if required.
